I’ve been thinking lately about some of the more obscure tactics that can be used to generate links. These generally include most of the following broad categories:
- Humor
- Conflict
- The Bizzare
- Secret Information
- The Nefarious
- Fun
Examples of these techniques include the recent SEO Quiz, Henk Van Ess’ SearchBistro, the SEO-via-Voodoo site and others. The questions that keep me interested are:
- Are these tactics effective over the long run?
- Do they generate the right kind of traffic?
- Are they equally applicable to multiple industries?
- Can there be overkill with these practices?
